Java Chapter Lead – Language Support Squad

The Developer Experience tribe offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the productivity and satisfaction of Danske Bank’s developers as we set out to massively improve the developer journey. This position is to establish a new squad responsible for creating a deep language support for the developers in Danske Bank. The product of the squad is to provide guidelines, implementation of central offerings (logging, monitoring, testing, etc.), best practices, package curation and anything else that can help elevate the developer journey and experience for Danske Bank’s developers. Initially there will be a focus on Java and further language will come.

As the Chapter Lead, you are an innovative and motivated leader, who blends deep technical expertise with an enthusiasm for coaching and developing others. You serve as a “player & coach”, spending approximately 30% of your time on managing your Chapter, and the remaining 70% of your time as a doer in a Squad delivering value by completing work.

You will carry the HR responsibility for your chapter members, as they will report to you as their Line Manager. As a person you are therefore excited about helping them grow and develop by adopting a catalyst leader mentality and approach.

You will:

  • Be an integral part of building the foundation for Java best practices in Danske Bank and build the ecosystem needed to be productive
  • Help establish and enable a community around Java that will build on co-creation and inner sourcing to ensure that all the great work already done in the organization is leveraged and will continue to feed into the central support
  • Drive a culture of collaboration that ensures that the squad builds offerings and standards that benefit and resonates with developers in Danske Bank
  • Assist with defining technical stack and development best practices
  • Develop guidelines incl. best practices to improve the execution of chapter members
  • Empower and facilitate squad members development

About you:

We imagine you have at least 5 years of programming experience and hold a degree in Computer Science or related technical subject area.

You are outgoing and empathic in your work. This will be more than a technical exercise, it will be a community building exercise that will lay the foundation for how development can be supported in the different languages Danske Bank utilizes.

  • Deep software development experience with Java
  • Interest and experience with building developer communities based on passion for the work
  • A facilitators mindset that allows you to help discussions progress
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal and explanation skills
  • Leadership experience
  • Coaching, mentoring and teaching skills. Strong in facilitating competence discussions
  • Provides and seeks open exchange of view on complicated issues
  • Advanced English skills

We offer:

Monthly salary range from 5200 EUR to 7800 EUR gross (based on your competencies relevant for the job).
