As a Chief Platform Engineer in the Integration & Adoption Tribe, Async squad, you will play a vital role in developing our Kafka offerings across the group. Your responsibilities will include managing the infrastructure to ensure the highest security standards, guaranteeing high availability, and performing essential upgrades.

As a member of the Async squad, you will support the product owner in shaping the team’s direction, exploring innovative approaches to enhance and grow its portfolio. You should be confident in engaging with stakeholders both within and beyond the organisation. Furthermore, you will represent our Kafka offerings to wider audiences, promoting awareness, providing education, and gathering stakeholder requirements and feedback.

The Async squad is a cross-located team with members based in India, Denmark and Lithuania. The team is responsible for managing Kafka, RabbitMQ and IBM MQ (decentralized) while supporting developers in integrating asynchronous and event-driven solutions throughout the bank.

You will:

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, resilient Kafka infrastructures to support real-time data streaming needs across the group
  • Continuously monitor and optimise Kafka clusters, ensuring high availability, reliability and performance while minimising latency
  • Provide expertise to troubleshoot issues, resolve incidents and ensure operational stability of the Kafka platform
  • Implement and maintain security best practices including access control, encryption and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements
  • Act as a subject matter expert, mentoring other engineers, promoting Kafka best practices and facilitating cross-squad collaboration

About you:

  • In-depth understanding of Kafka architecture, brokers, topics, partitions, consumer groups, and streaming concepts
  • Hands-on experience with installation, configuration, scaling, and maintenance of Kafka clusters in production environments
  • Knowledge of distributed systems, fault tolerance, and designing scalable systems is essential for maintaining Kafka’s reliability and performance
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve Kafka-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, configuration errors, and operational failures
  • Understanding of Kafka security features such as TLS/SSL, authentication mechanisms (e.g., SASL), and authorisation to ensure data protection and compliance, along with knowledge of infrastructure identification for effective asset tracking and management
  • Capable of working effectively in a cross-location agile environment and conveying information clearly to team members and stakeholders
  • Advanced English skills

We offer:

Monthly salary range from 5200 EUR to 7800 EUR gross (based on your competencies relevant for the job).
